A Quick Post

Just a lightning quick post is all I have time to squeeze in before the busy remainder of the week ahead. I'm having a house guest for a few days, as well as going out of town after that. But I did manage to get these two faces (above) done. They were a lot of fun. I bought a boat load of 11" by 14" pastel paper which these were done on, but now I wish I'd gone with the next size up (18" by 24"). Next time I'll buy a boat load of the bigger paper, but I can see I'll get some use out of this, too.
Hope everyone is enjoying the summer! Until next time, take care!

A Dead Beat, Head Games, And Such

My apologies, as I have been a blogger dead beat. A whole week has passed without a new post. Just so busy as of late. And the week ahead will be even busier. That's summer for you! Longer days just means more to be done. I do have a little bit for "show and tell" today, anyhow.
"Wake Up And Smell The Coffee" 18" by 24", pastel
"Blueberry Summer" 18" by 24", pastel
And Faces #391-#395, below, are just some pencil sketches.
That's what I have to show for myself for the time being, artistically speaking. I will try harder not to let a whole week go by before I post again. Until next time, I hope you are all enjoying life and take care!

Directions

Here is where I am at with this piece from last post...
I have tinkered with several ideas in Corel Painter (below) to try to get a better idea where I'm going. (It's not like I can stop and ask for directions!)
If I don't figure it out, the piece will end up set aside for a while. Because I'm not working from a photo or a subject right before my eyes, the composition starts completely from "scratch" as opposed to improvising on features of something pre-existing. It can take a little longer to navigate through the terrain if it is unchartered territory. I'm glad I waited a few hours with this piece before plundering ahead with my first idea. Because I liked this second direction better! (Excuse the sloppy execution of those coffee cups, tinkered with quickly in Corel Painter!)
We'll see what happens. I have several pieces I am wanting to wrap up before possibly starting something new. Possibly. I don't want to get too far behind in my face count, either.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Until next time, take care!

Literally, A Couple More

It's easy to think about all the faces I have left until I make my goal, to be impatient and just plunder ahead. However, I do still care very much about quality and have been making more of an effort to work to my potential even if I have to slow down a bit on the face count. This 18" by 24" pastel painting above is still in progress. This is just the foundation I spent parts of my day working on today. Although I even like it just as it is, I will add some very subdued color in areas. It could very well fit in as art work in the graphic novel I am writing. But I also like it just for hanging on the wall! It has also given me the idea of how to proceed with the piece below, which I have been stalled on. It is shown cropped, and there is actually a lot of space to work with for a background. I will treat it, as I have with the piece above.
I have an enormous amount of errands that seem to have been suddenly dumped in my lap, but am hoping to peel through them quickly so I can get back to my faces! Hopefully I will have some work to post over the weekend. Until next time, take care!

It's All About The Dress

I have been kicking around the idea of a graphic novel for a while now. I went so far as to write out the synopsis, and even a couple paragraphs. Anyway, one of the main scenes takes place in a bridal shop...hence, the illustrations above to correspond. Not sure how far I'll get with the novel, not sure if it will appear on this blog. But at least I have a few new faces to add to the count if nothing else comes of it! For the novel, I think the middle image has the somewhat edgy look I was after. Or at least after some digital tweaking, it would work. I may use none of these sketches, I may use all.
Update: Here is that middle sketch after some digital tweaking, below.
Hopefully I will sneak in some more faces to post later in the week! Until next time, take care!
